This book was created for you,
Abigail Rose Woods,
on the occasion of your First Communion
St. Patrick Church
St. Charles, Illinois
May 5, 2007
May God always bless you.
With Love,
Mom and Dad
Abigail Woods, this book is written especially for you as a remembrance of the day you made your First Holy Communion. What a special day that was! You received the Body and Blood of Jesus for the first time. How wonderful to know that Jesus loves you so much that He wants to be with you. He wants to be close to you…always remember that. You are precious in the eyes of God!
On November 6, 2000 your family brought you to St. Daniel the Prophet Church in Wheaton, Illinois to be baptized. It was on that day, Abby, that you became a child of God. Father White poured water on your head and the life of God filled your soul. Aunt Mary and Uncle Bob were proud to become your Godparents. Every time we look at the pictures of your baptism we remember how happy we were to have this new baby in our family.
Many things have happened since the day of your baptism. We celebrated your first birthday, watched you take your first steps, and heard you say your first words. Now here you are seven years old and ready to receive Jesus in Communion. Welcome to the table of the Lord!
Abby you first learned about Jesus from your family. Since then you have been learning more about Him at St. Patrick Catholic School. The most important lesson you can learn about Jesus is His love for you. He showed how great that love is when He died on the cross to save you. Because of that you can look forward to being with Him in Heaven. What a friend you have in Jesus!
On February 2, 2007, Abby, you celebrated your First Reconciliation. In that sacrament you felt the love of Jesus as your sins were forgiven. Your soul became as clean as it was on the day of your baptism. Going to confession was a wonderful way to prepare for your First Communion. It is important to have a soul clean from sin every time you receive Jesus in Communion.
Besides going to Confession, there are other ways of preparing for Holy Communion. Praying is one of those ways. Praying is talking to Jesus. Before you go to Communion, Abby, you should talk to Jesus and tell Him that you are ready to receive Him. You could pray the Our Father or Hail Mary or maybe use your own words telling Jesus how much you love Him. He is always ready to listen to your prayers.
One of the special ways of preparing for First Communion is to choose the clothes you will wear on that day. Abby, you wore a pretty white dress and veil. You looked so beautiful as you went to church ready to receive Jesus. Being all dressed up told you that this was no ordinary day – this was your First Communion Day.
The day finally arrived on May 5, 2007. You had waited a long time for this day and now everyone was excited that the wait was over. Just think, for the first time, you will walk up to the minister of Communion, say Amen, and receive Jesus. Abby, this had to be one of the most special days in your entire life. We are so proud of you!
Many years from now, Abby Woods, you may not remember everything about this day. However, this book will remind you of your First Communion Day and that God and your family love you more than you can possibly imagine. Keep that always in your mind because that is what it is all about…LOVE.
Thank you, Jesus, for making the day of my First Holy Communion so special. I was happy to welcome you into my heart and soul. May I always remember how beautiful this day was and those people who shared my joy. Bless those people ... my family and friends ... and help us to be holy and good. How blessed I am that You are my God. I love you!
