Dear Abigail Rose Becker,

We all look forward to Easter with Easter Egg hunts and chocolate bunnies.  Mom and Dad wanted me to send you this to help you learn more about Easter traditions.  Long, long ago the egg was an ancient symbol of life.  During Lent, the 40 days before Easter, eggs and sweets were forbidden foods.  Lent ended at Easter, so we celebrate Easter with baskets of candy and Easter Eggs!

The word Easter comes to us from the ancient German goddess of Spring, named Eastre, whose symbol was the rabbit (that’s me!)  Through the years, I have remained a part of the celebration of Easter.  My helpers and I hide Easter baskets and eggs for you to find.

Before the time of Jesus, people celebrated the coming of Spring and the ending of Winter.  Today we still celebrate the arrival of Spring but also, we remember Easter as the time of the Resurrection of Christ.  Ask Mom and Dad more about this.

This Easter look for a special egg with pretty designs on it.  I hope you enjoy the celebration with your family and friends in Des Plaines.

Happy Easter,

The Easter Bunny
